So, do they basically make a sandwich similar to a good Philadelphia hoagie?  Point Pleasant is a little north of the New York/Philadelphia cultural divide.

If you can find the article in the AV Club’s archives, the hypothetical scene they illustrated sounds like it would be the greatest James Bond film that will never happen.

The AV club had a similar slide show several years ago, speculating how each actor could emphasize a particular aspect of 007's character.

Not to mention a brief role on Sharpe where he tries to kill Sean Bean’s character- for once, Sean Bean survives.

I could swear that Altoids had a royal warrant back in the 90s.  A quick glance at the empty tins in my desk shows that this is no longer the case.

Not to mention how many times the direct line of succession of the English/British crown has ended over the centuries.

Braveheart, a film that depicts the Battle of Stirling Bridge... without a bridge.

This miniseries was pretty big back in the 1980s, although it seems to have faded into obscurity now:

All I came here to say is this- please, world, do not allow that huge collar on Harry Styles to become fashionable.  I’d like to think we killed and buried that beast in the 70s, never to return again.

I seriously had an argument with some dumbass in the 90s in which he claimed Queen Elizabeth II was a direct descendent of William Wallace because he impregnates the crown princess in the film.

Really?  I recall most of the commenters agreeing that the treatment of Hot Lips in the film probably (and rightly) wouldn’t fly today.  Or maybe I’m remembering that debate incorrectly.

Add Cross of Iron to that category of era-inappropriate hair styles... although maybe in this case you could argue that being cut-off deep within Soviet territory, the “Germans” may not have prioritized grooming to parade standards.

Beat me too it.  Works great, although they lose interest if you use it too often.

What, this wasn’t the fashion in the early 1950s?

Let’s just say both the book and movie had to be severely sanitized in the transition to TV.

Yeah, I remember virtually every UHF station (there’s something the young ones also wouldn’t know) in the Philadelphia area carried reruns of this show.  They were usually on in the middle of the day, though, so I only saw MASH when I was home from school on a sick day.

I can hear the screams of a thousand NCOs when they see how the laces are tied on those old-style combat boots.

That Vermont farm also had a flamethrower? I would think that’s one of those items which civilians couldn’t own without a special permit, and who in their right mind would issue Miller a permit for something like that?

Its been common practice in certain individual countries since I started visiting in the early 2000s, like Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Probably more, but those are the examples I know.

I took them as being more like a an exclusive guild than a trade union. But maybe the difference is lost on Bezos.
