An earlier version of this post cited oxybenzone as an actively harmful ingredient in sunscreens, describing it as “a synthetic estrogen that could disrupt your endocrine system.” As Casey Johnston points out, absorbing levels of oxybenzone through the skin at levels equivalent to those found in studies to disrupt the Read more

Great story! I love articles about lost treasures like this; I never heard about this game before. Lots of creepy imagery in this game; I wonder who the target audience was? Man, I still remember being creeped out by games like Shadowgate and Uninvited as a kid. Imagine seeing this image as a 7 year old:

Devil's Advocate (not an engineer) here: it's not necessarily structurally unsound because it's visably wobbling like that, is it? I've heard (from the INTERNET) that structures that undergo stresses need to have a certain amount of flexibility built into their designs, so while elements (or humanity) may cause them Read more

My nintendo was in our furnished basement which used to flood often. After one such flood we had one of those cone shaped air fresheners with the gel inside to help the combat the musty smell. It was around the time I first rented Friday the 13th for NES. Everytime I smell one of those air fresheners I remember this Read more

I moved from Atlanta to Chicago for work and arrived on the first day of the polar vortex. I was wearing fingerless gloves like an idiot and couldn't unlock my door because my fingers froze. Everyone has said repeatedly that "it gets better" and "there's nothing like Chicago in the summertime." But, like, it's already Read more

When I lived in Delray Beach, FL I sometimes wanted to walk either for exercise or just to break up the "car monotony." That said, I rarely did it because 1) it felt WEIRD walking in that gated "community" and 2) shit was just so far away! So not only would it take me like 15 to 20 minutes of walking just to get out Read more

A few years ago I stayed at a friend's lake house near Elberton, GA and brought a kayak. I paddled a few miles every morning and as I passed by other docks people would stare at me. On a fifth day a guy said to me "How is that even fun?" like he was pissed at me and I realized that I hadn't seen any other Read more

I was down in Atlanta to visit a friend and go to her office xmas party. Since you have to drive everywhere there we took a cab because no one wanted to be designated driver. On the cab ride back to her place we made the driver stop at a gas station so someone could buy cigarettes and one of the patrons at the gas Read more
