Yeah, I read DKR when it was released and I know this was loosely based on the older, grizzled Batman. It's been a couple decades give or take a year, but I seem to recall a better rationale for him pushing for the fight with Superman. I dunno…

I think most agreed that Batman was kind of bad ass. However, he was also portrayed as kind of an idiot. Sure, they showed him doing sciency shit, but as far as actual decisions and detective stuff goes…he was lacking severely.

I believe Clooney, on a purely visual level, had a face that kind of represented a very Neal Adams-ish Batman.

I like Kevin Smith, overall, but his original disappointment was the truest reaction to the film. In a way, I understand. In our lifetime, this is probably the last chance to see a proper DC Universe come to the cinematic experience. So, if you know that this is it, maybe try to accept it.
