In 7 starts over the past 4 seasons, he’s averaged 6 1/3 IP (pitching at least into the 7th in five of those starts and at least into the 6th in all of them), so relying on him for innings isn’t a stretch. Plus, he’s got a 3.82 ERA (4.07 FIP) with a 1.12 WHIP and 9.47 K/9 in those starts, so he’s pitched pretty well…

I think if Kluber wasn’t pitching today, he probably manages it differently. But Kluber is arguably the best pitcher in the AL (or at worst, is top 5) who has thrown at least 7 innings in 20 starts and at least 6 innings in 27 starts this season. He’s playing the odds that Kluber gives him innings.
