Jordan Sargent Gave Me the Boot
Wow, I think Jordan Sargent just brought down the banhammer on me. He is thin skinned, man. This is my first, but it nuked all of my comments and my previous posts and put me back into the grays.
Boyhood
I watched Boyhood last night. About a third of the way through the movie I was ready to turn it off. I am very glad I did not. I have been thinking about it all day. It seems to me to be perfectly post-modern and avant-garde, and a solid antidote to our reality programmed dominant culture.
Medium is Not the Message
I have been looking at Medium because folks mentioned it in the Denton discussions yesterday. I found some things I liked, and wanted to create an account so I could "recommend" them or share them back here. You have to use Twitter or Facebook to create an account. I have an semi-anonymous Twitter account, tied to a…
Is it Still Possible to Merge Accounts?
Is it no longer possible to merge accounts in order to make a group kinja? The directions on merging say that under "account settings" there is a "connected accounts" section in the "modal".
Gawker, Why Won't You Feed Me?
Sorry to only post on Crosstalk to whine about Gawker, but here goes.
Venture Capitalists, I Have IDEAS!!!!
I just read that the recent high-tech bubble is about to burst. If it bursts, it takes all of the other bubbles with it, which means that I have missed yet another season of over-exuberant capitalism and not cashed in. I have ideas! Here are my ideas that may help me steal secure some investment from other people that…
The Jig Is Up
Last night I made a comment on one of Gabrielle Bluestone's articles that never made it into the thread. It was my regular semi-trollish, thread-jacking oldster type comment. I guess she "dismissed" it before it ever appeared.
The Lulz Are Compromised
The article "Internet Explodes Over J-Laws Alleged Hacked Nudes" has been pretty fun all night, but as the thread gets longer, and the gray/not gray/dismissed cycle gets more complicated, the conversation has been rendered unintelligible.
Do The People at Smartwater Read Gawker?
Are the folks at Smartwater, who are sponsoring the post "7 Artists Who See the Big Picture in Tiny Objects," aware that:
Why Does Gawker Use British Spellings Inconsistently? What Can We Do About It?
I just read Max Read's " Why Are All My Comments Grey? What Can I Do About It?" in which he gives the parameters for getting out of the grays as:
An Ugly 50th Anniversary
In July 1964 a New York city police officer shot 15 year-old James Powell in front of "about a dozen other witnesses" (Wikipedia). That incident sparked the Harlem "Riots" and is considered the "precipitating event" of other unrest in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey throughout the summer.
I'm Dropping Bricks in a Well
Kinja isn't working for me because nobody has found this "blog" and while I am the bloggiest blogger in the blogiverse, I won't blog without an audience. If I want to just say insane things to myself, I can do that on the Number 1 train like everyone else. The point of blogging is to spread your disease. It's…
Finding the Funny 7/15
First Recommendation
Where Is Da Funny?
So far, during my sabbatical on Gawker, I'm sort of shocked by the lack of funny. All of da Humor is provided by commenters. That's how it almost always is on these social media sites, but Gawker doesn't even seem to try. They don't bother to bring da Funny. Adam Weinstein injects his posts with some spirited writing,…
Well, I'm Here
Dear Gawker,
So This Is the World Cup?
Allow me to betray my ignorance. I don't watch soccer. I don't have any real interest in soccer. When I was a 3rd former in high school I played fourth team soccer. At the end of the season the coach told me, "your should try football next year." That said, I have been mesmerized by the World Cup, the same way one…
