Man, I watched it for the first time a couple weeks before they posted The Night Of pilot, and Con O'Neill was a stand out cast member. Then I saw him in Happy Valley S2 a few days after finishing S1 of CJ. It's a Baader-Meinhof type thing.

Also the pilot is almost a beat for beat remake of BBC's 2008 Criminal Justice pilot (the whole first series is great), so I agree that the Serial comparisons are overblown.
