He’s like the Laettner of Deadspin comments
I really need to scan my degrees so I can use them more in internet conversations with strangers.
I gotta say, posting an actual picture of your BA degree, and then countering criticism of that with a picture of your masters is probably the most obnoxious thing I’ve seen in a Deadspin comment section. So well done I guess.
With all due respect, choose a side or eat shit.
While Shaquille O’Neal and Paul “Big Show” Wight were rumored to compete against one another in next month’s…
The only way to know that number is to compare written quotes from the dealers in your area.
Worse than Aidan/ Braden/ Caden/ Graydon/ Jaden/ Ninja Gaiden?
My husband and I are looking to buy our first car and we’re planning to get something new. Everyone keeps telling us to go to the dealership with a (reasonable) number and don’t let the dealer go above that. All fine and dandy, my parents taught me how to stand my ground and not get bullshitted, BUT how do I know what…
Literally my biggest pet peeve triggered
The real crime here is the “all J names” naming convention the Buss family used. This proves that Jerry was a monster.
Kudos to you for the public correction. Would like to see this universal on Deadspin
* This paragraph has been updated to indicate that Petty took that hit because of a mistake by his center. An earlier version had attributed the mistake to Petty.
I would also credit you and other Jalop articles with giving me the real tools I needed to price shop and negotiate a price. I walked out with a new 16 Honda Pilot for $39K out-the-door, largely based on my insistence that the number be an OTD price, a tip you guys preached.
Yeah, I put $15k down on a $30k Acura but still financed for 4 years. Why? Because my interest rate is 2%... I should never have trouble getting out from under it should the need arise, but at 2% I’d be better served investing that money than paying it upfront for a car.
Thanks man...that’s why I’m here, and they let me write fun stuff too!
I remember seeing a salesman visibly deflate a little once when I stopped him talking about payments to tell him that I’d be paying cash.
Goddammit, Tom. Everything you write is just gold, man. Never seen anything consistent about financial responsibility or true car-buying help on any other automotive sites.
Personal finance is hobby of mine and while I’m generally conservative, I’m pretty aggressive about auto and home financing because you’re taking advantage of a bank’s generosity and risk appetite. But this assumes that you can plan and commit to things, which is not an inherent trait in most people. I like to say you…
Fixating on a monthly payment as the “hurdle” for affordability is nothing new. Baby boomers with 15 or 30 year notes on RVs are a prime example.
