Jesus.
Jesus.
Time comes for us all, sadly.
Butter makes everything better. It’s science. Seriously though, sub room temp butter for the spry in that last cookie recipe and give it a try. That’s how I make mine and they are so good.
Those vintage cookbooks are the best. Mine has a section on how to set the table, how to not poison your family (basic food safety), and how to pretend that you know about wine. It’s fantastic.
So maybe the ones in your area don’t. But the ones where I’m from, do. At least the older generations. Trust me, I know the state of my mother’s and my grandparents’ finances. So saying that commenter was lying because “Catholics don’t tithe,” was incorrect.
Catholics do tithe, actually. Not all of them adhere to it, but my mother, my grandparents, and my aunts have been doing it their whole lives.
That is horrible, but I’m not at all shocked to hear this story. The Catholic church as an organization does not respect women, and it fosters abuse of all kinds.
It was so horrible.
Oh my god.
Thanks :)
Definitely. That is one of the reasons why I don’t have children, and may never be able to.
Ah, I wouldn’t say it on the internet anyway, but we do highly specialized consulting and we’re a tiny company so it’s not the sort of thing the average person spends money on.
my boss is a dinosaur who thinks being sick is a moral failing.
We’re a small company, and he’s the owner/CEO.
The trouble is my boss is literally ancient and has been healthy as a horse his whole life. He hasn’t missed a day in years so he expects all of us to be like him. It’s infuriating.
I have an office job and we get 3 sick days a year. If you go more than 3, it comes out of vacation time and requires a doctor’s note. Really though you’re not supposed to use any. My supervisor had a heart attack on a Thursday last year, and he had to have surgery, and he was back in the office on Monday. Really.
Melanie, I always appreciate when you do articles like this.
This has been my favorite place on the internet. I am really sorry to see it go. And for the record, I think Gawker Media is making a huge mistake here (lots of mistakes on their part this week, actually).
Wat.
Social politics? We’re talking basic human rights here. Republicans don’t want me to have autonomy over my body. They don’t care whether black people are able to survive an encounter with the police. They don’t want Muslims to be able to practice their religion and be members of American society. Basic human rights.
