ROFL. Well, if that’s how you try to convince people to see things your way, I see why you want your unions. I’ve done just fine on the strengths of my own intelligence and skills. “Idiot and tool”, huh? Pot calling the kettle black there, champ.

“Literally everyone”? That’s a really black and white argument. Nice job not convincing me. Read more

Asking out of genuine curiosity, but why should I, a tech / software professional, put a body of people between me and my negotiations with an employer / potential employer? If I have the skills and experience to qualify me for a new position, why would I want to have to get in line behind the other union members who Read more

From about the midpoint on, it felt to me like the filmmakers gave up on plot and turned it into a long, drawn-out CG chase. Like the original, it had a great premise but couldn’t nail the landing. Read more

Lately I’ve had more good experiences with dealerships than bad ones, but that may just be because I only give a dealer one chance to not be manipulate dicks. A bad culture usually starts from the top, and I would be surprised if a dealership that tolerates hostile sales tactics will ever significantly change for the Read more

Yep, that’s a biggie... last time I checked my ink tanks were nearly empty, and I was getting lines that cleaning wouldn’t fix. So I’m debating between ordering fresh cartridges in hopes that fixes it, or just tossing the thing. I hate to landfill a functioning printer, but I also hate to throw good money after bad. Whatever the hell your point is, I could not care less. But keep on pasting walls of text in response to jokes online, I’m sure somebody out there will take the time to make sense of it.

I mostly agree, though math homework still tends to be printed out (harder to do that on a pdf). Mine still sees fairly regular service for various forms, and will do a ton of scanning during tax time. Read more

Huh - my cheap Brother multifunction laser is 6 years old and going strong, and has outlived my previous HP. While I’ve also gone through a few Canon inkjets over the past 20 or so years, it eventually becomes hard (and expensive) to source the ink cartridges, but that hasn’t been a problem (yet) for Brother toner. I don’t get how anyone who bothered to watch the entire series, then were disappointed by a sloppily written ending, would give the same creators a do-over. That’s like JJ saying “Sure, we had no idea where we were going with Lost and totally screwed the finale, but wait till you see what we do with the reboot!” Read more

Nice flashback! Full disclosure: I skimmed the article, but stopped for each of the David Macaulay -level drawings. The 2020s needs more silly, beautiful, hand-drawn “how stuff works” illustrations!

Similar story happened to a friend a few years back at a large Boston area Toyota dealership (cough*Boch*). They took his license for a test drive, then “couldn’t find it” when he was ready to leave. As soon as he lost patience and loudly demanded his license back, it miraculously appeared. He did end up buying the Read more
