AWD can only add traction if you’re applying throttle. So, of course you will get going faster, but getting going in bad traction situations on the street is a moot point.

Buy two sets of wheels. Swap wheels yourself. Save on mounting.

That’s still fine. The compound of the rubber used in Snow tires is designed specifically for the lower temperatures, not just snow.

All things being equal, winter tires will perform better than all-season tires in wintry conditions.

The numbers can work, but they rarely do. Timing it right is often simply luck. Trying to plan vehicle purchases to maximize your dollar is a losing game. They depreciate. Period. It’s really how much will you lose, which is only exacerbated every time you do switch cars.
