I really like Portland (ME) myself but every time I go there people want to meet for “brunch.” They are all so so busy (parental duties, not doing much professionally as far as I can see) “brunch” means meeting at 8 AM. On a Sunday. When at 8 AM it’s dark outside nine or ten months out of the year. Maybe their

And Beverly Hills was named by a developer after Beverly Farms, MA. Beverly Farms, while lovely, and Kardashian-free (so +100 stars) is no Beverly Hills.

No. Many are descended from prolific Queen Victoria and her Prince Consort Albert. Germans, but not Hohenzollerns, although her eldest daughter married into the Hollenzollern line and gave the world Kaiser Wilhelm II.

I actually posted a comment upthread about this.

It still goes on. The “child armies” in Africa. ISIS. Hamas. The child trafficking rings. Child labor in the developing world. None of these organizations are technically organs of a functioning centralized state, as the Hitler Youth and its sister organization The German Girls League were, but the effect is pretty

Not only that, it was 1933, Hitler had either just taken over or was about to, and they probably saw all these Germans doing it on the newsreels and thought it was funny or something. Lots of Germans thought the Nazis were a passing fad and made fun of them.

Well, not entirely, but any non-denominational university campus that didn’t pretend we were living in the 19th century.

A Duane Reade.

Thanks!

That’s going on my tombstone. (I wouldn’t be surprised if I die of cirrchosis, as a matter of fact, so it would be only fitting.)

Are you involved with the ANA? My nephew is! You must know him; it’s a small group indeed.

Thank you!

I was thinking the same thing. Those typefaces, so ubiquitous, so era-defining. If any graphic designers/typographers can find this comment, can you tell us what they are?

I’m surprised Anne wouldn’t take them. I know very little about her but I do know she’s quite the equestrienne and before Britain banned them I’m would imagine she participated in quite a few hunts, and for hunts you need packs of dogs. So even after leaving her parents’ household she has probably still been around
