I had more flashbacks to endless lit classes covering Blood Meridian. Not that it's not in many ways a great book, but….

Well said. I find it ridiculous the number of people who have suggested this is a sort of retcon and makes zero sense (or that Showtime forced it on the show!). By the final scenes of last year he had basically given up on ever trying to reconcile all the bad things he'd done.

Penny Dreadful has a 3 minute behind the scene thing on the American stuff. Since they film in Europe they decided to film them in Spain—using some of the same locations and even sets (repainted) as the old classic spaghetti westerns were filmed https://www.youtube.com/wat…

I do think Josh taking a break from acting (didn't he move back to his small home town for a few years) seems to have helped. It probably helps too not always being cast in the teen hearthrob roles he was before (even when the material sounded like it could be more interesting like that remake of that great French

Yeah, it's John Logan being his most indulgent. He built his name as a playwright—I'm sure he relished doing essentially a one set 50 minute play. I love it—that's one thing I watch for with Penny Dreadful so my bitchy attitude is otherwise you're watching the wrong show :P But, fair enough if that was your

You think they should fire its creator and the man who has scripted every episode (well except for, oddly, this one?) Umm OK.

It is the only one he hasn't scripted. And it's odd as it is so exposition heavy you'd think, if he had to give up an episode for time, he wouldn't have chosen this one. That said as showrunner he would still get final edit so I woulda hoped he had at least re-scripted the Ethan accepts the dark scene.

Where have they said that evil can never go good?

They've always implied Ethan would go this way—haven't they? And after Vanessa and him parted last year he already seemed pretty ready to just give up and give in to what seemed to be his destiny.

While I agree with that—to some extent, it also reminds me a bit of when fans get too hung up on what they loved in the best (especially couples "Ethan needs to go back to being protective of Vanessa NOW! I LURVE thEM") an attitude that often kills shows with fans shipping couples etc.

Some of the dialogue I credit to this being the first episode Logan hasn't scripted—but as a showrunner he still gets final edit and surely could have replaced that.

Yeah even in back one he alluded to horrible things he did as a human (and I think specifically to the Apache).I dunno, this doesn't feel like a retcon to me.

Logan did say, back when the show premiered, that he had it mapped out for three years—which at this point means nothing, of course.

Exactly—in the case of Jeckyll in this show in London I think "white privilege" definitely can apply to apparently the way he's treated despite his brilliance.

THANK YOU, I was just gonna say… (Albeit in the original if I recall he's essentially looking for an antidote to his previous experiments—here it seems like the Dr's anger issues are natural—and justified).

At this point I wonder if they'd not just laugh it off and go back to their mission.

I was just gonna comment on that—odd as it seems to be a big source of pride that he's scripted every episode. I *did* like this episode—even after having to study Blood Meridian in TWO different lit classes within three years, all the similarities in the Western stuff kinda irked me. But I wonder if the fact Logan

do they get less even though they are still full contract cast members? I assume that makes sense—but, for example, Beale, who couldn't commit to more than a few episodes, is no longer a contract cast member (and sadly we've only seen Lyle in one episodes).

So Lancelot from BBC's Merlin is not a pool… I mean aquatic space designer or something? OK! (Yes I know he is on Musketeers and I think was one of those awful twins on Heroes as well)

Oh calm down. :P At least though Hugh was roughly the right age (maybe a bit young even) for the character and, hey hee's hairy :P Redford would be a bit old for Spider-man so
