Would watch.

Am I the only Star Wars fan alive who doesn’t give a shit about Baby Yoda?

2022 doesn't seem that long to me. When did two years between films become a "hiatus" instead of just ... how long it takes to make a movie?

Mad About You is the show that convinced me adulthood would be horrible.

Kinja made me. :(

I think the timeline fuckery is what makes it work. It eliminates the idea of a trajectory or arc occurring in the chaos of war and finds a cool way to highlight that every stage of a story arc is happening simultaneously during a battle.

Justice for JC Chandor!

At the start of the film, I’d agree with your assessment of the characters. They are caught up in their lives and greedy and short-sighted. Then something cataclysmic happens that shakes them out of their routines during the aftermath of which—and to me this is the true brilliance of the film—every character is asked

I agree that that is the thesis. But I don’t think it was conveyed in a manner that was coherent nor consistent. I think it was more interested in mean-spirited mockery than in making a powerful statement. It’s the insufferable hipster classmate who thinks he’s too cool to have friends, and spends his time telling

My fellow Chandor super-fan! I knew there was another!!

I love him in Nightcrawler. But his performance in Prisoners knocked my fucking socks off. I'm still mad it got no Oscar love.

I love them both (and A Most Violent Year). Although I wouldn't say that the bankers of Margin Call are not evil. They are. Just in the most banal way, which is (part of) the point.

I feel like every year we have a discussion or two about an indie on a best-of list that I like and you hate (American Honey and Florida Project spring to mind, but I know there have been others). So I take your endorsement of Toni Erdman quite seriously. (And again, it was all intended as a compliment.)

No it doesn’t have to. But I think it would be a lot better if it did. As it was, the humor wore off about 35 minutes into the thing and then it was just increasingly eye-rolling.

I don’t feel attacked. :) I’m just saying, the argument that people who were meh on (or disliked) Boyhood were determined to see it as pretentious doesn’t work in my case, because my taste leans to what some such persons might call pretentious.

But I like "pretentious" movies.

That is incorrect.

Tell that to Bender.

I can’t access the Letterboxd list. I keep getting an error message. Is it public?

I feel like you are hard to please when it comes to arthouse cinema (and I mean that as a compliment), so I consider this an incredibly strong endorsement.
