I love Kelly Marie Tran herself, but if the opening line of the Episode IX crawl is “a surprise attack by the First Order has taken the life of meddlesome custodian Rose Tico”, I’d be remarkably fine with it.

That’s exactly how I feel about it. The parts of the movie I liked, are some of my favorite Star Wars moments, period. But the ones that didn’t work are the very bottom of the barrel. Not simply “eh, it just didn’t do it for me”, but more like “I feel actual anger towards this movie”.

“Common sense” would have been letting Finn sacrifice himself to disable the cannon, rather than leaving everyone’s fate up to a) Luke showing up and buying them time, and b) Rey showing up and rescuing them.

The “black Hermione” thing was the worst, for me. Telling me that Dumbledore’s gay? I can buy it, and it does make me view his relationship with Grindelwald in a new light that still rings true. I can honestly believe she had that in the back of her mind when writing the character, at least in the final books.
