Yes.
Yes.
I ride, and an electric bike is appealing in some ways. I tend to ride dual sport camp trips, so electric isn’t an option at the moment. However, I’d still love to borrow one for a week.
NASCAR: Let’s make sure the casual fan has no fucking clue about what’s happening, other than “Jimbo’s turning left while we’re all waiting for the big one.”
Is the red car a joke? Satire? Production?
We have so little traffic (so few people) in 90% of my state that it would never pay for the installation cost. It might work in crowded cities, but that’s a small percentage of the US (if looking at area, rather than population).
This is true, except that we’d discussing electric cars, which somehow seem to avoid paying gas taxes.
In the US, there are state taxes and federal taxes on gas. I pay those taxes whenever I fill my tank - regardless of my location. If I am paying my state at the time of registration (each state has their own car registration process and license plate) and I am driving in a different state, it gets complicated quickly.
If you travel out of state, how does that change the calculation?
“hard as hell” is correct. I can’t even imagine how this would happen.
True, but at some point, EVs will be the majority of vehicles on the road, or at least a large enough percentage that we will have to do something.
No shit. I’ve lived in crowded cities as well as rural areas. One of the reasons I moved to a rural area is that I could semi-retire at a fairly young age.
The discussion is about how to get electric cars to pay their share of the gas tax. They don’t use gas, so it’s a more challenging problem.
Clearly we need more tariffs against that damn Japanese car companies!
The last part of your idea is true, but it will never happen. I live in one of those rural areas you speak of, and we have zero voice in state politics. The power in our state never gives a break to the rural areas.
Assuming you burn some sort of fuel in your F250, you’re paying taxes on miles driven every time you fill up. You understand that a Prius will (in general) pay lower gas taxes than an F250, right?
What’s your solution?
I had no idea that OBD isn’t required on EVs.
We need to pay for roads. Right now, more of that burden falls on ICE cars than EVs. We need a solution.
Expandable storage: Fuck Apple and the other hardware companies that don’t add a microSD slot. Not everybody spends every hour of every day with perfect wifi or cell reception.
There could be a system that uses the OBD port and a GPS to gather info, and automatically deducts out of state mileage. It could come with a discount because there won’t need to be much human interaction.
