I pretty much agree, but it isn’t being used as a method of verifying identity. In the same way that social security numbers were never intended to be used as a national ID number, and yet here we are. It’s time to revisit and reform.

Using SSN needs to stop and a decent, unified national ID program with some basic biometrics needs to take its place... like almost every other first and second world country on the planet (bonus, voter ID built-in rendering voter fraud at the ballot box a thing of the past).
