I’m all for a new supernatural show, especially one with a strong female protagonist, but Stephanie Meyer’s involvement doesn’t make me optimistic about this project. Also, I tried reading The Rook and couldn’t get past the first quarter of it.
Any good server that blames their bad tips on their appearance, race or the “social customs of the diner” has, in my opinion, made a poor choice about where they work.

As a server, I am guaranteed $2.83/hr. That is categorically terrible. How much else a server makes is completely up to them, their skill and their decision making....
Hey, that sounds like a business idea!
I find it odd that other threads that talk about tipping usually lean on the argument that servers make practically nothing, barely getting minimum wage if that and this thread is comment after comment on how $12-14 would be a paycut.
People working in most industries are working their butt off. I’ve never understood how we decide who gets tipped or not. I tip the guy at the coffee shop who pours my drip coffee and hands it to me at the counter, but I don’t tip the person who runs my food to my table at Noodles. What about all the retail people,…
I never thought about tipping the AAA guy, until my boss waited with me one day and slipped the guy a five. Since then, I’ve asked a few people and most of the older men said they tip and most of the younger men or women of all ages said they don’t tip. I guess it could also depend on the service. Change my tire in…
Wouldn’t he treat the server worse if he thought he could lord the tip over them?
I agree that banning tipping is not the way to go, but I also think that paying servers a sufficient base wage only solves half the problem, and I can see how banning tips is a ham-fisted attempt to tackle the other half—that is, the issue with customers feeling anxious/unsure/resentful about the tipping thing, and…
I also think the “tipping optional” thing doesn’t eliminate some of the issues with tipping culture which is servers prejudging customers and treating them based on how much of a tip they are likely to get and servers getting shafted due to getting bad shifts or bad sections. Or the inequity of front of the house pay…
It’s even worse at my local JCPenney’s. The men’s clothes are on the second floor with the straight-size women’s clothes and juniors. The plus-size women’s clothes are relegated to the first floor sandwiched between the baby section and home goods. Ugh.
Seven7 was already a clothing brand prior to McCarthy doing a line for them. Do you know if she has taken over the entire brand or is “Melissa McCarthy Seven7” just a separate line collaboration?
I agree with the privacy curtains for everyone idea. I tried to make sure I had gym last period, because I sure as hell wasn’t going to take a shower in front of everyone. I would be even more against it if I was in school now in the age of smartphones. I was bullied and can totally see some of those monsters snapping…
I prefer standard time. I like having sun in the mornings.
Not when you have to go to bed at nine and wake up at five am in the dark. It’s hell on your circadian rhythm.
Not me. I hate waking up in the dark. In my area, standard time allows me to me to be on a more natural sleep pattern - waking up as the sky is brightening and going to bed after it’s fully dark.
I’ve never met a vegan (to my knowledge), but I’ve met plenty of vegetarians that couldn’t resist wrinkling up their nose at my choice of food, telling me that meateaters stink (as in body odor), or cluttering up my feeds with propaganda. It wasn’t all of them and usually it was early on (in their militant phase), but…
Well, I’m also black and drove a beat up hoopty in a predominantly white area. I was too paranoid of getting pulled over to ever chance it.
I must just look really square, because I never got offered weed/liquor and I delivered in the Point Loma/Ocean Beach area.
