Yeah, but EA is not CoD only. They also have other games which overlap with nintendo's "party system" demographics.
They would also have made any money if they did not fill the Wii's library with their games. If a console has no games, it will not sell as much, it's simple as that.
It is the games that makes a console sell apart from the console itself. EA depriving the Wii U after the shitload of games and money they made on the Wii only makes sense if Sony or MS or both payed for exclusivity deals.
