I mostly agree, you are right, counter is a better analogy. My point is it isn’t quite as backbreaking as people think it is, it doesn’t even gain card advantage as it’s always a 1 for 1.

Every deck running black at least runs elderspell in the sideboard, and a lot of them run 2 in the mainboard at the moment because there are only like 5% of decks that it has 0 targets. Even RDW has Chandra and sometimes TIbalt. 

There are certain decks I find 100% unfun to play against and will instant concede as soon as I realize that’s what they are. Mostly RDW, there’s no reason to play that in unranked. It’s like a highschool senior beating up middle school kids. 

Thought erasure is just preeemptive removal that goes 1 for 1. Slightly better vs things with ETB or planeswalkers because they don’t activate but really not any worse than someone using mortify on your thief of sanity.
