Wouldn’t it be great to have an app that would look at your browser history and place the IP address of your favorite sites in your hosts file once a week or month or whatever? DNS attack? No worries, I’ve got the IP right here.

Am I taking crazy pills?

They aren’t worthless. They are pretty valuable to me. Plus, I did have some appraised and they were worth about 30 - 40 each, depending.

I have a bunch of my Dad’s old comics from the 60s (DC and Marvel) and many of them are priceless because when he was six he wrote his name in each one (for when he and his buddies traded them they could keep track). Some how, he managed to write his name over a face. on one of the first pages, every. single. time.

Here, I’ll fix that for you

What are you talking about?! Those missions used our nation’s most advanced technology , which is usually reserved only for top athletes:

This isn’t a reusable rocket landing itself back on earth. This is a probe sent to another planet. It doesn’t involve the return of a rocket stage, and deals with an entirely different, far less dense atmosphere. Its an entirely different category.

My ex used to always say “If grandma had a dick, she’d be grandpa”.

This is the BEST!!! HA!

There are honestly only two ways to know for sure:

Sure it was, but it was still a full-fledged site. Websites are like any other type of business. Even small ones are still actual businesses. There’s not a minimum threshold to hit before you become “full-fledged.”

You’re either misremembering time or conflating two different sites. Nate was still mostly focused on “Moneyball” style baseball stats in the early-to-mid 00's. He didn’t start writing about politics on a regular basis until 2007, which was when he began writing on Daily Kos.

what are you counting as a “full fledged” site? 538, even according to wikipedia, existed prior to 2014. The site itself lunched in March of 2008. That 2014 date is for its move from th New York Times to ESPN.

He actually launched 538 ahead of the 2004 election.

For 2: isn’t that true of any model that produces a probability rather than a prediction?

Yeah, I think AB here is missing what Silver is rebuffing. He’s saying the car won’t start, and everyone around him is either telling him he flooded the tank, or he is an idiot for thinking cars can move and isn’t it nice that Nate Silver looks stupid now.

Nate’s whole thing is that emotionally over-invested partisans (non-sociopaths) continually read too much into every little event, aided by narrative-driven media members.

“I’D LIKE TO ADD YOU TO MY PROFESSIONAL NETWORK ON LINKEDIN”

“Excuse me, ma’am? Ma’am!? Do you have a minute to discuss ethics in gaming journalism?” MA’AM?!?”

I’m reminded of another famous Boston photograph.
