I wouldn’t say those two things are equivalent. Obama never said he was going to do any of that stuff. Trump has actually said that he intends to do all sorts of destructive and unconstitutional things. I’m sure the majority of it is bullshit that he never has any intention of doing, but people being afraid that he

Yeah you’re right. Being worried about things that the POTUS-elect actually said is EXACTLY the same as being afraid of things that Rush Limbaugh’s anal bead (Sean Hannity) invented.

The difference here is that Trump has said these things, or that the people being picked to shape policy for the next 4 years actually have these factual track records. Most people aren’t conjuring bullshit from whole cloth like the right does.

Well, I don’t know whether Trump is going to actually try to deport millions of people, build a massive wall, or ban Muslims from entering the country (all things he repeatedly, directly, and strongly actually campaigned on, not conspiracy theories his opponents made up), but I think people on the left are more scared

I have to pay a McDonalds worker $15/ hour, those costs need to be borne somewhere.

That makes sense in theory, but looking back at decades of mininum wage raises, you don’t see any of these employment issues at any significant levels. One of the frustrating things about economics is that some things that make intuitive sense don’t actually happen, and vice versa.

That’s a “race to the bottom” logic that ignores major cities where an increased minimum wage has seen an increase in economic growth. It’s the core of the Right’s and Trump’s nonsense:

Woe is me. I have to give employees a living wage. I’ll have to close my business if I can’t abuse my employees and grab as much

It’s all true! We would have to raise the prices of goods like the “Big Mac” by over 4%! I’m not going to live in an America where I have to pay an additional $0.17 for a shitty hamburger just so that a bunch of poors can earn a living wage!

Seven decades of data say that isn’t what happens.

Not to go all HOT TAKE-Y on everyone, but seriously, fuck this sport. Watch the NBA, where the talent/athleticism is not only at an all time high, but the star players actually are able to play most of the games

Thank you. Are we really going to have to sit through 4 years of “if you didn’t vote you don’t get to complain” bullshit.

I’ll admit that, other than voting for Clinton, I didn’t do much of anything; as opposed to every single other presidential election of my adult life, in which I donated and actively participated in some form or fashion for my candidate of choice. Which is why I hold the DNC about 40% responsible for the outcome. They

As hard as it is, the best thing for any government employee to do right now is stay where you are. You are one of the few forces that can work to soften the blow that the Trump presidency is going to have on the world.

Ashley, I know you probably take a lot of shit over your work here, so I wanted to tell you I have started to deliberately check Deadspin when something like this breaks, knowing that your article will both appropriately reinforce my horror and commiserate with it. You’re great. Fuck anyone who tells you otherwise

I don’t think everyone who voted for Trump is a racist. I do think that everyone who voted for Trump knows what he’s done, what he’s said, and what people who support him have said and done. And I think people, knowing that, chose to prioritize other concerns over the wellbeing and safety of American minority

So finally today I was able to find some hope. In a story about a junior staffer standing up at a meeting and calling our Donna Brazille on her role in losing the election. If This election wakes up democrats, shakes loose the last vestages of the old Clinton coalition and makes way for a new generation of
