As a UGA alum, I feel like I just broke up with a girlfriend who was wholesome and amazing but couldn’t clinch a SEC title. I am not good at metaphors.

No, you drop it, any support for Shillary is support for a new Bush era

You know, Elizabeth Warren, you chose to be a politician. You chose that life. And right now, when we need you to run for this job more clearly than we’ve needed a particular person to run since 1932, you punked the fuck out and left us with Hillary. I’m genuinely mad at you.
remember that time she bravely tweeted about how discriminating against gay people is bad
2008 Gawkerites: “Always Obama truthers”
Why cant you just admit your candidate is a unprincipled republicrat
Fuck this dude. He sounds like an annoying asshole.
So advertising doesn’t have a value for politicians?
Things you’re saying it should be illegal to do to politicians:
Talk to them about an issue.
Give them trips.
Fund campaigns.
Things you think are just fine:
He helped promote the PPACA. That’s worth something. Is there a principled reason that free advertising isn’t a thing of value that should be outlawed under your proposed system?
Are you nuts? Lobbying includes a great feature; educating a politician on an issue. Yes, it is abused, but don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater. If we rely SOLELY on the politician’s own knowledge to craft important legislation, then were screwed as a society.
Rather than burn a newspaper, why not craft a responding op-ed? Don’t like that someone thinks that way? Change their mind. This irritates me more than it should, but I also can’t stand how en vogue it is to simply block things out of your life if you don’t agree with them. Kind of like how colleges have been…
This is what happens when people think 1984 was a manual for how to ensure that everyone thinks the same way as you.
I totally agree with you about free speech and that even the most extreme nutter has a right to speak without being harassed or imprisoned (Mike Huckabee & ISIS both have a right to print op-ed’s IMHO...I’m a free speech extremist, no matter how ugly the speech.) But this Bryan guy is a douche: he’s just regurgitating…
It weird for Gawker of all places to take issue with censorship. After all, take a look at the total uniformity of comments on any of the “hot button” issues posted here and you’ll realize that any dissenting opinions have been banned.
Agreed. Why the necessity to slash funding over a single stupid opinion piece? How about writing a counterpoint? Seems an overly abusive use of power.
I caught something Bill Maher said the other night about ‘regressive liberalism’. I think this is an extension of it. Cutting out funding and trying to stifle dissenting opinions bc they don’t belong to the narrow minded echo chamber you associate with is maddening. And no, you may not like Bill Maher, but he’s not…
I look at things like this and have to admit to myself that conservatives are not entirely wrong about some issues.
This boils down to “I don’t like that you’re utilizing this avenue for discourse in the manner it was intended.”
Ah, Wesleyan. Keep fucking up, you gorgeous institution.
