World War Z and Seanan McGuire’s (as Mira Grant) NewsFlesh series were entirely too relevant in the early days. World War Z with how to (and how not to) ramp up and NewsFlesh in how to (and how not to) live in the aftermath. Initially I kept hoping that we wouldn’t drift into some of the more overly cautious things…
They’re probably related to the Siberian offshoot of the species, and came across on the land bridge that linked North America to Siberia during the ice age.
World War Z (the book obviously) did basically everything you are listing here. From the unproven meds that combat “African Rabies,” (it even sounds like China Virus ffs) to the Battle of Yonkers where public relations visuals, result in a massacre. It was published in 2006.

AltaVista for the 1990s pre-Google win. I was AV until I read a tech columnist in Time Magazine (!!) talk about this new site called Google.
A few comments. First of all eff you. Secondly, Altavista was head and shoulders above the rest in 1997.
That’s why Football in the Groin is such a timeless classic.
