If you like Squid Game, you might enjoy Takashi Miike’s adaptation of the manga As the Gods Will, which also happens to feature people playing children’s games that have deadly consequences for losing. Also, the anime/movie Kaiji, which is also about a gambler who gets drawn into an underground competition of sorts,

This review is spot on; the first episode makes this seem like just another spin on the Battle Royale genre but the second episode is what really elevates it to something special.

This looks phenomenal? As much as a tiny snippet can look phenomenal, but it does. Almost Robert Eggers-y. Super intrigued!

digging the concept. the shot of the three sister witches looks sick too.

Okay, I’ve been very skeptical about this, but credit where it’s due; that trailer reminded me why I enjoyed the original so much.

I don’t understand why people hate The Architect’s speech so much. It’s one of the more intriguing bits from the sequels. I guess it’s because no one gets kicked or punched or short for a good 5 minutes.

I’ve been lukewarm on it, but the trailer has me ready to watch it. I’ve like all of the Matrix movies so maybe it’s just nostalgia. But I’m sure it’ll look great on a giant screen and that gets me excited.

I saw Sicario (An adolescent power fantasy on how to right wrongs through the power of magical thinking)“

Now playing

The Emperor gives stewardship of the dessert planet Arrakis to Duke Leto, home to the colonized Fremen and the only place to mine Spice”

I will happily wear a mask for 2 hours and 35 minutes to go see this on a big screen. Can't wait.

I think it’s a stretch to call the series “four classic films” as well.

Excellent piece, Caroline. Your comparison to the exaggerated aesthetic of the Beach movies is spot on. Those movies were of my parents’ generation, and I always thought they were supposed to be some earnest portrayal of the bubble-gummy 60s teen. I watched Beach Party recently, and MAN was I way off. It’s SO weirdly

Hmm, no, 100% wrong. Clueless is a masterpiece, and by virtue of being actually, you know, funny, holds up far better than either She’s All That or 10 Things.

Hard to believe Paul Rudd was 50 in Clueless.

What are you even saying? Yes, some people had a positive opinion of him before it came out that he was a rapist. That’s not, like, hypocrisy that’s acting on new information.

imagine finding out a dude raped a bunch of people and in response being mad at ..... everyone else? what is wrong with you? this is literally the most ignorant and pointlessly vile comment i’ve read in a very long time.  you are a bad person and the world would be a better place without you in it.

Everyone knows that Roach is the most accurate recreation of a horse in videogames.  I grew up with horses on a horse farm and I can’t tell you how many times we had to get our horses off the roof...

“Its like a fucking law now or something, they just cant adapt something and leave ALL of it intact, AS IS.”

Fucking Connor.

Ambrosia missed a golden chance to just reply, “Ma’am, I’m sorry you were Tiggered.”
