Seems to me like the second comma in the headline is unnecessary.

Their claim to be the party of family values should definitely be over.

As Liz Lemon said: "If reality TV has taught us anything, it's that you can't keep people with no shame down."

Weirdly enough Gates actually praised Trump, saying he could do a lot to further innovation.

"by adults, for adults"

That's pretty selective powers of persuasion to be able to convince America to elect him president but not able to convince people to watch his show.

But if he was able to convince lots of people that his ratings were great, why wasn't he able to get more people to actually watch his show when he hosted it?

What if doing something radically different costs him enough in the ratings that he gets cancelled when he wouldn't have been cancelled otherwise?

"Since Colbert was getting beaten up in the ratings, what does he have to lose?"

To that I'd add that we should stop acting like we can stop something from being "normalized" because our words carry such weight that lots of other people will follow in refusing to legitimize that thing. I think that usually if you're worried about something being normalized, it already is.

Observation regarding #3: one bizarre thing about The Apprentice being Trump's launching pad to the presidency was that for most of the time he hosted it its ratings weren't that great. They were great at first but fell to the middle of the pack within a few years and stayed there.

Lohan was originally offered the role of Regina but she turned it down because she thought playing the villain would hurt her career. Wonder what Rachel McAdams thinks about that.

Same here, I get unfairly surprised when movie star handsome guys like Jon Hamm or Rob Lowe are good at comedy.

Anyone notice how the mythology of sci-fi cults don't even make good sci-fi?

We're livin' for givin' Xenu his due.

A guy who I went to high school with and was actually friends with for a bit in elementary school committed suicide 6 years ago. I only found out earlier this year while I and some other people were preparing for our 11th anniversary high school reunion(we didn't get it organized in time for the 10th last year).

People said the demographics would doom Trump's chances of winning, and look how that turned out.

Reminds me of a Daily Show bit in 2005 after the identity of Deep Throat was revealed. Then-correspondent Stephen Colbert did a report where he talked about the impact of Watergate, and he and Jon ended with this exchange:

"Oh my god, I get the shower first!"

"Live by night awaaaaay from here"
