What we always did was put things in piles for each person at the bottom of the stairs. Each person then had to bring her stuff upstairs and put it away properly. We did this no matter how good or horrible the house was (it could sometimes get pretty bad, since Saturday was our cleaning day).

Hm, what about the small round bandaids? Those are maybe harder to pick off. Is there something not on your body that you can pick at?
