A single self-driving car has a non-fatal accident and it’s global news. Meanwhile 200 people in my small non-US state have died in manually driven car accidents since the beginning of the year. People are shit at estimating risk.

Pretty much yeah. Computers will never be at the point where they can 100% predict just how stupid the average human can be

Honest question - is the only way to have safer self-driving cars is for all cars to be self-driving? (not trying to start a war or be sarcastic)

Putting an override in their software to allow people to turn off the safety features is incredibly stupid and absolutely something Elon would tell the engineers to do so he could show off.

“Elon Mode”? Is that where you have master control over a system to make it do whatever you’d want it to? Or where you throw out good sense, decent rules, and any restraint and break a system disastrously?

Ban the term “autopilot”.

“All I need to do is get close enough!"

“Try as you might, Integrator, you’ll never reach me, your everlasting arch-nemesis: The Limit!”

When I first heard the VO guy say ‘Queen Latifah is...The Equalizer’, I seriously laughed for about a minute.

Maybe this will finally kick off the Mathiverse, and we will get films like The Divisor and The Integrator.

A new patron saint for “guys who think they could have stopped 9/11 if only they’d been on the plane”, alongside Jack Reacher, whatever Liam Neeson's name was in Taken, and everyone else Neeson has played in the last 15 years

Worst I’ve seen is one of my friends runs a tennis academy that has a foundation to provide scholarships for underprivileged kids, so he knows the ins and outs of the system. We were playing golf and came across one of those “donate $20 and a hole-in-one wins you this set of clubs!” setups on a par 3. He asked to see

I agree, I loath true crime for the most part due to the tropes of raising up killers explotation of victims you know the stuff.  But when its financial crime?  Well that's league's better, no violent murder no graphic photos giving murderers what they want others to see.  Its stuff like this or the before mentioned

They pretty much all are. If they’re calling you, at the very least a large % of any donation is likely going to the call center.

Decided to give this a try to sort-of-watch while I’m working at home and was pulled in right away, first the buckwild culture of the telemarketing world (and the highlighted company in particular) and then the ernestness with which drug-crushing telemarketer Patrick turns into a pretty good investigative reporter who

really great series. i hate that ‘true crime’ mostly just means ‘the murder of women’, because i LOVE white collar stuff like this.

There’s a lot of buzz about that right now.

In Bangkok and for one night only

Crazy that any time this dork goes out in public he’s massively booed. Almost like no one likes him outside his twitter blue check  bubble.
