I made the mistake of clicking on the J. Marion Sims link. I feel sick reading that, but I also want to send it to everyone who argues that American slavery “wasn’t actually so bad.” He reminds me of Mengele... How do we not learn about this when we learn about slavery? God, what those poor women must have gone

Instead of listening to music or NPR or whatever you listen to at work/while commuting try using an app or the internet to listen to French radio! You’ll start to recognize words and it’ll help you start to be able to deal with regional accents.

Haha yeah Dueling is a lot of fun, which is why so many people like it I guess... I just don’t think it’s suuuuuuper effective for long-term language learning. At least for German/Portuguese (the only languages besides English I have any familiarity with). Don’t know about other languages.

Again, Babbel! I haven’t tried the German course since, ya know, I already speak German and I don’t want to pay for an extra course, but it’s a German company so I have faith in its accuracy. I’ve been trying to improve my Portuguese using it, and according to my grandmother it’s decently accurate grammar-wise, so

Duolingo’s good for some minor vocab (alas no profanities) but the grammar is... interesting. I played with the German Duolingo for fun once and it tried to tell me that my perfect sentences were wrong, and it wanted me to add words that made no sense. I’ve started using Babbel (which you do have to pay for, but it’s

Historic, not historical. These are different words with different meanings, Scottie! I wonder if she also thinks that the media is “bias” instead of “biased.”

I think it’s both. The respect issues are also that she just refuses to do any cleaning to the point where we’re on the verge on an infestation. And she got in a fight with her boss and quite her job on a whim this week, so money is very tight for her. But even so, she wasn’t very good with money to begin with and

And I don’t blame her

This is true

I hadn’t even thought of that thanks!

Thanks!

I feel you. I only drink on the weekends and I have made a disturbing amount of progress into this bottle of chardonnay.

Throw yourself into the dating world. Go on SO MANY dates. You’ll find someone who make you forget him.

To spoil her while she can still eat I recommend the meat cake... ground beef with a string cheese “candle.” I had a dog who died of cancer when I was a kid and until the end that was his favorite treat.

Yup she’s lying to me too! I’ve known her for years and know her “tell,” so I can tell she’s lying. I’m only a 22-year-old baybay though so I am not above using Mom and Dad’s credit card for groceries until I move out (which is fairly soon, luckily)...

It was the weirdest thing...

I’ll check out the Loft; seems to be a popular choice! And alas I’ve tried Uniqlo but mah gdamn boobs don’t seem to want to fit even in the XL. Those shirts would work for a night out, but unfortunately not for work...

Thanks! I didn’t even think of the Container Store or something along those lines! Would be a lot easier and cheaper than buying new products!

Maybe try prepping beforehand and having a script, even with pizza places? It’s a strategy that a lot of people use for phone job interviews, I wonder if it would work for her.

Look for pre-made squares! I’ve seen them around at some stores and markets, and it would for sure be a lot easier than making everything from scratch.
