Running windows 8.1 here with latest versions of everything and worked fine for me. Did you get the smartrun screen? If not and you haven't changed the security settings on Windows then that might be more an installer/run issue on your Windows install.

Already checked with both home insurance company and several brokers. Just simply not possible. I don't know whether it's just simply different here in UK but home insurance wouldn't touch anything that's used for business/owned by a company. And the business insurance specialists refuse to insure without also selling

I'm exactly the same in my game playing. If I keep failing or dying in a particular part of a game, I just quit it, come back to it later (if at all). I play to relax or be entertained, I have enough computer related frustration in my day work and spare time work.

This research should be extended to computer interactions in general. I tend to feel far more "violent" after editing the formatting in a Word document, or solving a bug in my programming, than any ultra violent game I've played.

I've already been to several independent brokers, gadget specialists, etc they will not insure business equipment without insuring the business against indemnity (and the premiums are so high it's pointless) or won't actually cover me. I'm not speaking off the cuff, I've already sought advice and recommendations. So

15" Macbook Pro is the absolute minimum I can get away with for working while travelling. Really does come down to what your work is, not just how effective but whether it's even physically possible to do at all on a tablet.

They won't cover anything I own.

Yes but the point of my post is that I can't be covered by existing insurance. Yes I specifically checked and no there is no way I can add my items (which include at least $12000 of stuff).

I work from home and my home owner's insurance refuse to insure anything used for business. That's basically all my computers and devices. I'm still trying to find something to insure my stuff that doesn't include very expensive business liability insurance (which I don't actually need).

Probably better off putting

And do people really truly check? I doubt it. Certainly when I did have to sign, the only thing that was checked was that there was a signature at all. Like I said if you were to do a comparison my own signature doesn't match with itself!

I don't see the point. A matching signature is the one surefire way of showing it is forged for me! My signatures never match. You'd have to have qualified graphologists to make any kind of judgement call either way. I've not had it checked in about 15 years at least, ever since chip and pin.

Don't need it, don't miss it. With using Launchy etc I can't remember the last time I even wanted a start menu.

As soon as I saw the link was to the Daily Mail it lost all credibility for me, whether rightly so in this case I just won't read the Daily Mail on principle. I'm deeply disappointed Lifehacker have used it for a source.

I realise but I seem to remember one of my examples Mint.com is available for Canada. But I know anyone non-USA is quite often excluded from many services.

And the absence of UK suggestions should be seen as an app development opportunity for someone :)

Yay!
It will be interesting to see what will be UK specific productivity tips. Although at the very least I look forward to seeing UK recommended tools where there has been previously frustrating US/Canada-only tools and services (e.g. Google Voice, Mint).

Problem here is that the number that calls could be withheld or not a genuine number. I can't remember last time actually getting telesales calls from a same number, it's different each time, some national, some international, some withheld/unknown, some that make no sense such as "00".

Where are you from? I'm in the UK and beside the Buffalo and Netgear I'd totally agree with this list for what's available here. And all those are what I'd consider known brands here for decent home routers.

I'm not sure I can decide. I have both Asus AC66U and Apple Airport Time Capsule. The Asus is my main router and the Airport is an access point to my network on different level of the house (as well as back up for my macbook). They're both really excellent. The Airport was far quicker and easier to set up. The Asus is
