So to give more language context to this - the term 好汉 hao han, is as you’ve put it, good hero. However like English, many Chinese phrases have two definitions. Hao Han 好汉 literally translates to Good Man or True Man.

The saying is attributed to dramatizations of ancient China, the Dynastic eras from the Warring States…

having sex with a minor is not statutory rape in the united states. Having sex with someone under the age of consent is statutory rape. Age of consent in Hawaii is 14, 17 in NY, 16 in NJ, and it is 14 in all of Canada.

The most heartbreaking part of this is that they train to fight fires side by side while they’re in prison, but once they’re out the don’t qualify to work as firefighters because they have a criminal record. If they received a viable career-path post prison then maybe it wouldn’t be as bad but as it’s pretty fucked…

The OP’s point seemed to be about the legality of marriage involving a minor. Yes, we allow it here. But the Indian court’s ruling didn’t ban it in that country. As the article said there are 12 million girls under ten(!!) who are married in India. And those would all be arranged marriages, since small children…
