I didn’t defend anyone. In fact, I explicitly stated that performing this check only on this couple is clearly racially motivated. I agree that the assumptions you stated are offensive as hell, that doesn’t change the fact that the Southwest employee clearly made them.
While you are correct that this is a legitimate check that gets done, I think you are wrong to say there is nothing racist here. My wife does not have the same last name as our children, and we have never been asked to provide any proof of parenthood or custody.
The Southwest employee was checking against the possibility that the father was stealing his child and running away with his white girlfriend. While the application of the check is definitely racially motivated, it is a real thing. From Air Canada’s website:

What you are looking for is the Canadian coverage. Spread across CBC, Sportsnet, and TSN, it covers almost everything live. Major focus is obviously on Canadians, but I watched the entire women’s half-pipe final live and there were no Canadians competing.
