I've known some cool neckbeards, granted its been like 1 out of every 20. Most of them have their heads so far up their own asses they start believe they are the only ones who can be right in the world.

It was clearly a rape, yes, but I don't think it was unnecessary. Anyone is capable of such a horrid act, you can live your whole life protesting rape and murder but when something inside your head clicks you become capable. He is trying hard to prove to himself that he isn't the good knight.
