But Into Darkness was so so terrible for reasons unrelated to lack of diversity. Like a lack of logic, intelligence, or basic human decency.

Man, from Season 3 of TNG through to the end of DS9 - which would include the best seasons of Voyager - was the absolute pinnacle of Star Trek - and maybe space opera on TV.

Man, I see so much of myself in this. Earthling was the first Bowie album I bought, and it’s still my favourite. And I saw him live on the Reality Tour as well, and it was incredible.

One way to measure his impact is the number of fictional characters in novels, TV and films inspired by him. In Phillip K Dick’s VALIS there’s one, for instance.

For me, the thing that drags this movie down from being a potential Hall Of Fame-er is that it spends so much time with Alex’s doppleganger replacement back on earth. All that stuff seems like its from a different kind of movie, and wastes time that could have been spent world-building in outset space.

I collect UK music magazines Classic Rock and Mojo. They have strong writing and photography on high-quality paper. They have far more substance and re-readability than most internet music journalism.

“It’s kind of insane that one of the biggest books of this new lineup still hasn’t quite gotten its heroes together yet”

I’m frequently surprised that Waid isn’t a bigger superstar in comics, even amongst hardcore nerds, the way Bendis or Johns is. He’s not so flashy, but everything he writes is quality. He’s the master at crafting stories that make the most of those specific characters. Whenever I read a Waid book, I think ‘Yes, this

Unfamiliar with superhero comics are we?

“a (quite frankly ridiculous) “Robin Law” that doesn’t just outlaw vigilantes acting under the Robin name, but pretty much every sort of possible paraphernalia associated with Robin.”

Luke actually delivering on those assertions of “I’m a Jedi Knight now” is what makes him so badass. That was my favourite sequence from the original trilogy. As character-defining as Han shooting first.

It’s interesting, when the major beats of the story are laid out like this, how irrelevant Han Solo is to the tale.

My most pressing question for the MCU is ‘Who is playing Captain Marvel’ and when are they going to announce the details of her movie?

Well, maybe because del Toro, for all that he makes excellent movies like Pacific Rim and Crimson Peak, can’t seem to score a hit to save his life.

This was indeed an adorable comic. I hope it’s a big hit.

I recently went to a screening of Labyrinth and it was packed to the gills with kids and teenagers, as well as adults my age. They can’t have been there for nostalgia.

This is the sort of art they used to put on book covers that would make me want to read the book. I wish they’d return to that style.

It’s kinda telling that they had to show the new Supergirl multiple times because there’s sweet FA other female superheroes to showcase.

Why is this your header image? I was introduced to Star trek at the end of season 6 of TNG and I loved it. In retrospect Season 7 was only a slight downturn in overall quality, but the run of episodes towards the end included ‘Parallels’ and ‘The Pegasus’, among the best ever.

I just remember it feeling very cramped and boxy, and the performances very varied in tone. It was definitely better than the film, but it didn’t feel like a ‘proper’ adaptation; more like the ‘best they could do on this budget’.
