Apple says FaceID requires “user attention,” so your eyes have to be open and looking at the device. This should prevent the notorious girlfriend-nap attack.
Here’s the download on FaceID. Looks pretty good to me—lots of attention to security and anti-spoofing mechanisms. Of course, we’ll see what happens when security researchers get their hands on it, but that’s what bug bounties are for.
And yes, you do run the risk of having a cop point your phone at your face during…
“The point of it is to enable an entirely new experience that’s more fluid, more intuitive.” Tap to wake or lift to wake.
iPhone 10! (Are we skipping 9? I guess we are.) No home button, vertical cameras on the back, looks a little thicc.
$699 for iPhone 8 and $799 for Plus. That’s not as painful as I thought it’d be.
Is the charger going to be magnetic? The idea of just plopping my phone down on the center console of my car and then driving around doesn’t sound good if the phone can go sliding off at any moment.
Wireless charging! Finally.
Yeah, the stargazing example was the only one that made me feel feelings. It’d be nice to see more practical uses for AR instead of focusing all the hype on gaming.

Hell yes, new stereo speakers in the iPhone 8. Twenty-five percent louder and with better bass than the iPhone 7. I know it’s annoying to listen to music on your phone (without headphones) but I do it all the time.
“Silver, space gray, and a beautiful new gold finish.”
Ooooh I’m seeing a champagne color!
“It’s truly amazing how much iPhone impacts the world each and every day. Our intention with iPhone has always been to create something so powerful, so immersive and so magical that the hardware virtually disappears,” Tim says.
RIP home button.
I’m struggling to feel excited about this. They demo’ed this whole game as a TV thing and then at the end said, oh yeah, btw, you can play this just as easily on iPhone or iPad.
All I can think about when Eddy Cue talks is how he yelled at Rihanna that one time.
The weird thing about these 4K demos is that I don’t think you can really see the difference on the livestream.
