It should be noted that all of the major manufacturers have announced they are not developing new DSLRs. So the problem here is buying into an old lens mount that going forward will require an adapter with a newer model or replacing lenses.

There are other platforms that could have been utilized for both. Twitter isn’t some magical unicorn that provides a unique service.

I agree. I have a hard time trying to come up with some positive impact that Twitter has had on society. Twitter is mostly just a toxic hellscape and I can’t see why we would miss it.

Gwynne Shotwell effectively runs SpaceX anyway. He’s mostly around as a figurehead and to throw out big ideas that generate PR.

Do people that invest in these things just have money to burn? Any savvy investor has to know this isn’t going anywhere and they’ll never get a return on their investment.

I’m not at all optimistic that the TMT will ever get built at this point. GMT and the ELT are far ahead in construction. There still needs to be a giant telescope in the northern hemisphere eventually but at this rate it may take a decade or two.

I really wish there was a mandatory retirement age for Congress at 75 or so. It’s ridiculous that we can’t get younger politicians. I also think Biden was too old and wish we’d gotten someone younger.

VR has been tried for decades. Second Life is almost 20 years old. One can argue VR is a meh enhancement to a mature product (the internet).
