This was the early 90s, where everything was neon and family friendly "Yo, my name is (insert name here) and I'm here to say" rap was everywhere. It kind of made up an aesthetic mini-decade, where the last vestiges of the 80s still held on. This was the days before Nirvana, Ren and Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead,

They are both very similar, huh? Both are ridiculously awesome, didn't perform well in America and are heavily influenced by anime.

A Scott Pilgrim/Pacific Rim double feature would make for a great party night.

Yeah, was going to say that.

At least this time all of the characters look like they could've been in the 90s.

Yeah, on the surface it looks like a typical slice-of-life schoolgirl anime. But it is actually very over the top. INSANELY over the top, as you can see. There are better action scenes in it than in a lot of shounen anime. And the action scenes are over things that are basically incredibly mundane, like trying to

The Nichijou girls should be in it. They certainly have the powers for it.

The Crazy Steve episodes of AT4W are among my favorites.

In any other film, perhaps. But going in knowing this is basically a live-action anime, and is intentionally so, it definitely adds to the delicious flavor of the movie.

Fullmetal Alchemist(the manga and Brotherhood anime) is my definition of a shounen story done right. Has a definite beginning, middle and end. No filler. The storyline doesn't have endless battle scenes. When there are fights, there's a multitude of factors that make each one unique, instead of generic shounen "get

Raleigh says a line in Japanese to Mako at one point, and Stacker Pentecost(I just love that name) says a few lines in Japanese as well. Is this happening in the US? Or is it happening in another part of the world? I'm in the US and my cinema had the Japanese lines intact.

Somebody should look into that. I find it odd how some theaters kept the Japanese dialogue, while others dubbed it.

Heh, I can see how it would be something they would do, since I do believe they complained about her appearance before, for some strange reason.

Yeah, to me, cheese is always delicious. Bring on the cheese.

I don't get why there's this push to make sure geek movies have acting quality and story rigidity that is eligible for the Palme D'or. Sure, there should sometimes be a threshold at the bottom, but sometimes a fun movie that knows what it is can just be a

Let me guess, they made her look like a generic cookie cutter idol?

When I watched it, it was in Japanese. So, I guess they dubbed over it in certain theaters for some reason. Others are saying the same thing.

Personally, her uneasiness with English made her more believable. You ever speak with a Japanese person? Their way of expressing emotion can be very different than those of an American. Same with those of other Asian nationalities. It can come off as "bad" acting, even in real life. The inflections used for emphasis

Yeah, it's been years since I studied Japanese. Anyways, thanks!

Otachi, the flying Kaiju's front legs are similar to Clover's. It was probably intentional.

I love cheese too, and this was very well-made cheese. And very 90s, somewhat reminded me of The Fifth Element, at least in its look. It's an uncynical movie for a cynical age.

Love Scott Pilgrim, though I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters. I do proudly own the BluRay, though. But yeah, I can see this as similar, since they're both anime-influenced, and run on the "FUCK YEAH" Rule of Awesome. And their box-office looks to be sadly similar as well.

I didn't mind him, he did a decent enough job. Got a little overshadowed by he awesomeness of everything else in the movie, but he did well enough that it didn't bother me.
