Canadian here! I’ve read it! It isn’t graphic or overly disturbing. It is really about these women exploring their personal agency, relationship with god, and figuring out how to move forward with or without their community. It isn’t a true crime novel, it is a lot more philosophical. It is a really good read. 

It’s definitely not fluff, and the subject at hand is obviously tough, but Toews has a way of writing that is so light, heartwarming, and hopeful that I never feel drained after reading her books. Highly recommended.
