Great update! Glad to see you're enjoying the car. Good to hear you found a good mechanic. I just did a roadtrip from Vancouver, Canada to Los Angeles and back, my car ran flawlessly and it was an epic trip! Hope your Croatia adventure goes well.

That's a E91 facelift. It never came with a SMG, only 6-speed auto or 6-speed manual (RWD). Early E60 545i could be ordered with a SMG, although I'm not sure about the wagon.

I've told friends to give up cars. Not because I think they're too difficult of a project, but because they never drive them. They just sat there because they didn't have time or were too cheap to run them or started modding them and got stuck.
