I think it's good to strive for internal consistency, but also to acknowledge that some stories are operating as metaphor as much as a literal reality. Alan Moore gets it. This is a good public service announcement.

It's like when someone says a piece of art isn't meant for them so that makes it automatically immune to criticism. Art is subjective an therefore it's specifically meant for people to interpret and therefore critique.
