Goya’s Black Paintings are all pretty upsetting.

DFW had some pretty horrible flaws, but the fact that he seemed to recognize them and exercise some self-awareness makes him a different league than Franzen, I think. It does get lost in all the hagiographies, though.
Kind of related: I keep getting very specific, professional-seeming texts addressed to a Dr. (my last name) recruiting for various oncology departments. My brother is an oncologist, but he doesn’t know why that is happening. What is going on?! Am I being spied on?
My 08 Miata had a factory 6 disc changer. IIRC Bluetooth was widely available by then. This car didn’t even have an AUX!
They are dismissing them because boomers are presuming to lecture them for trying to fix a problem the boomers largely created.
There’s a quotation that goes something like “turning $100 into $110 is hard. Turning $100 million into $110 million is inevitable.”
I think “entrepreneurial opportunity” is a euphemism for his bosses told him he’s no longer part of Great Hill.
My mom had a brown Maxima wagon when I was small. I think these were only available in the 2nd gen mid to late 80s? Sadly, it was totaled in a flood. (Houston gets a lot of rain in hurricane season). Nice car.
Silence was excellent
The difficulty can be a barrier for DS, but the atmosphere/mood is just so great. Strange and melancholy, kind of like Shadow of the Colossus or Ico, it sticks with you.

There are a lot of situations where your brain is half-engaged in a couple things. Like if you’re cooking or something.
Yeah he’s a real whack-ass buster
‘Misnamer’ is a nice touch.
Yeah, formal has a specific meaning. Also, don’t wear a tux during the day. Everyone seems to do this at weddings, and it’s always an ill-fitting rental from, like, Men’s Wearhouse or something. Either wear the correct formal/semi-formal clothing, or just put on a decent suit.
withdrawn why bother
Your best source is a janky out-of-print book from 20 years ago? Make your argument and cite some actual data, not some Reagan-era crank.
The author is discussing what he did in his role as governor. Mentioning his party seems pretty relevant to me.
I get what they’re going for with the Element, but it strikes me as a practical, reliable car that actually has a kind of distinctive style. Basically, all the reasons they describe it as a sadness car seem to me to just be sensible. Honestly, it’s got more character than a late model BMW X5 or something.
I think Latino, since you’re presumably referring to men and women working in these restaurants.
