DFW had some pretty horrible flaws, but the fact that he seemed to recognize them and exercise some self-awareness makes him a different league than Franzen, I think. It does get lost in all the hagiographies, though.

The difficulty can be a barrier for DS, but the atmosphere/mood is just so great. Strange and melancholy, kind of like Shadow of the Colossus or Ico, it sticks with you.

The author is discussing what he did in his role as governor. Mentioning his party seems pretty relevant to me.

I get what they’re going for with the Element, but it strikes me as a practical, reliable car that actually has a kind of distinctive style. Basically, all the reasons they describe it as a sadness car seem to me to just be sensible. Honestly, it’s got more character than a late model BMW X5 or something.
