Ahh yes, the “Everyone is breaking the rules, so no one should be punished for it” defense.  Simple rule, if you’re going for something that involves recognition and attention like a World First, don’t use a third party program to do it.  Earn it legitimately.

Is there a name for the phenomenon when society takes someone who is very successful, and by all accounts an extremely down-to-earth and well-adjusted human being, and suddenly decides that they suck and don’t deserve their success?

Believe it or not the viewing of media can be an emotionally fulfilling experience. It doesn't just have to be an exchange of currency. 

Imagine being ok paying full price for a game that then asks you to pay more money to access content that is already in the game.....a game you paid full price for.
