In our past monarchies, as a whole, have been a bad thing. That does not mean they are inherently bad. Like many things in this world, the problem is with the people. The system can work if there was always a good monarch.

If using autopilot leads to less deaths overall, despite having flaws, would it be morally responsible to take it away just because it isn’t perfect?

Wait. So, when our star becomes a white dwarf all of the planets in the solar system will become moons?

Quick redirect the attention! The party you advocate for is corrupt. That’s all there is to it, you can either fix yourself or be complicit. No other options. Looking over the fence isn’t going to change that.

So go with the middle ground and use an encrypted, local, service like keepass if you’re really worried about it. Written passwords are, basically by necessity, weaker than generated passwords you’d get out of a 3rd party password management service.

I hope Lyft followed up with you. They have for poor ratings I’ve left in the past. Explaining the situation is good, because someone that drives the wrong way up an on-ramp should not be allowed to continue driving for them. That’s insane.

Yeah, I’m glad that they are stepping up to do more, but having your healthcare completely tied to a company is tough. It’s already bad enough that you can lose your insurance if something happens, but to also lose your doctors would be bad news.

No, sorry, that is not what I intended to imply here. I’m not arguing that something being popular makes it good (though I would say that at least a sizable number of people must like a piece of art to have it be considered good). I am saying that while it might not be something you like, others do, and your opinion Read more

Like I just mentioned in another comment, you can have plot driven stories just fine. The Martian is a good recent example that got glowing reviews. There is basically zero character growth in that story, both in the book and the movie. Would you say that was not a good or interesting story? Do you think that the Read more

I enjoyed The Martian, and it is fairly well regarded too. Mark Watney has basically no character growth throughout it. He has crises, but fundamentally he is the same person at the end. This goes for both the book and the movie. Read more

You seem to think that a book has to have character development to be good. Have you ever thought about why you think that? Is there a decree somewhere that demands it?

Yeah, it was an interesting move allowing the audience to clap for the first time ever for a State of the Union. What WILL they think of next.

Some oxygen tanks use liquid oxygen because it is more compact than the gas form. If the tank ruptured it would start spewing liquid oxygen (until that oxygen transitioned to gas after heating up). The guy “inhaled” that, presumably through the normal breathing tube. Read more

It can’t achieve maximum speed. If you’re at 99% of the speed of light then you can speed up to 99.9%, after that you can go to 99.99%, then 99.999%, this continues forever. The maximum speed is an asymptote, it gets infinitely close, but never touches. For math we can approximate these things, but a real world Read more

Yes, light speed is the maximum speed in normal space, but no object with mass can reach it. You can always get closer, but never achieve light speed. There would not be any sort of max achievable speed, since you can always spend more fuel to go just a little bit faster. There is no such thing as a ship in space Read more

Talking in a roundabout way does not mean that people will necessarily not see what you’re actually trying to get at here, “You were being racist in that story you just told me.”
