nice virtue signaling you’ve got there fellow white person 🤦‍♂️

sigh

I’m not asking for a prize.

Nobody’s asking for a list.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Oh so I’m “tone policing”? That whole “first amendment doesn’t protect you from consequences of speech” is just for racist republicans I guess.

Her anger and frustration is 100% justified. I just think it’s misplaced.

I’m not offended by her post. I can criticize it and agree that it’s problematic as the spokesperson for a consumer goods company without being offended by it.

Yah it’s super helpful and good to paint people who support social justice and racial equality with the exact same broad brush used for actual racist shitbags marching with torches.

Nothing is lost from her message by leaving out “YES ALL WHITE PEOPLE”. In fact, that’s the sentence that derailed her message.

I’m white and I benefit from white privilege. I spend a lot of time thinking about social justice and how I, as a white person, can do my part to fight systemic problems and look for solutions. I vote for candidates that support racial equality, criminal justice reform, etc.

I’m not whining about the calling out of white supremacy.

The discussion was never about that issue. It was about this woman and her anger. Her anger is justified but she chose the approach and argument. Turns out it just wasn’t a good one.

Amazing how a few words here and there completely change the meaning of the statement. This is the entire point. We can talk about what we “think” she said or what she “meant” but the reality is she put her foot in her mouth and put the spotlight on herself instead of on the issue she was trying to highlight.

Are you #allwhitepeople right now?

Eh I disagree with your characterization of it as “offense” (my problem) vs lack of tact or diplomacy (the author’s problem).

Well I guess that’s the problem with shooting your mouth off on Facebook. The platform doesn’t really lend itself to thoughtful nuanced post.

But what’s the technicality? That words have meanings and can damage a brand when you’re a spokesperson for same?
