I might argue that it would be worse now then after the plague. Back then, people had more of the simple skills needed. Now? Not so much.

I think you’re seriously overestimating the resiliency of the system. While the immediate repercussions won’t be as catastrophic as some claim, the mid-term problems will be severe. People just don’t understand how interconnect everything is, and how dependent we are on a few key industries.
Now, a lot of our resources are harvested through machine or automation.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
