Again, I would beg to differ because while Arrested Development had its innings, it's still a largely marginal sitcom appreciated by a certain demographic, whereas Liza Minelli has been around decades longer and in various media.

I would argue diegesis, while important, isn't the deciding factor. Genre is more about audience expectations. Not to mention that narratively speaking the songs do change and develop, so it's not like the songs are a 'separate' part of the movie.
