I do both.  Plus my own spark plugs, water pump replacement, accessory belt replacement, timing belt/chain replacement, brake jobs, exhaust repair, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, ball joints, and so on.

So that works out to ~$2000 over 3 years, or around $55/mo for the tune and the “extra” gas cost, for a sizeable chunk of power and entertainment, AND maintain the factory warranty...I’m not seeing the downside here...
