Didn’t Christian Bale’s character die in the GT40 (J car, not MK II) IRL? Not a very good advert, that.
We need $kaycog, Jalopnik’s #1 Ford GT fan who also happens to be of the female persuasion. Maybe she can be our emissary.
Is it too late to request a guest commentary by $kaycog?
WHY DO THEY MAKE MOVIES FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIFFERENT INTERESTS THAN I DO!?!?!?!?
This is actually a great story about beating impossible odds. It was one of the greatest stories in racing history. I thought it was well done. Highly recommend it.
I loved this movie. I watched the Shelby documentary right on Netflix right after and loved it too. I’m not a car person or a middle aged man (or a man). Carroll Shelby was a quirky, eccentric man and the unconventional innovation of everyone involved in designing these cars is pretty fascinating to me.
It’s a commercial for a car that was built for racing in very limited numbers. The 1966 LeMans race is very well documented and is considered one of the greatest ever in racing or sports in general. If anything, this is about how Carroll Shelby won the race despite Ford’s interference in their own program.
Could someone take this crap off of Jalopnik?
well a 1966 ford gt goes for about 4 mil
This is the correct take. I’ve never wanted a 250 GTO more than after I heard it in Ford v Ferrari.
I guess it’s because I’m a middle-aged American man, but I liked it.
Indeed, how could there be people with different taste.
15mpg in a recreational car where most will see ~1,500 miles per year is perfectly acceptable.
Is there nothing that will make you happy? Finally, a rear-mid-engined Corvette after 50 years of waiting and countless empty promises from so-called insiders, and all you can do is complain about the fuel mileage? I’ll bet you’ll find that the balance isn’t good enough and between that and no manual you’ll declare it…
I’ll wait for the hybrid version. I’m not getting any car that can’t achieve better than 20 MPG. This is why Chevrolet won’t be selling as many Corvettes as they have in the past. They abandoned their heritage, and if you got this far, I hope you know I’m totally fucking with you. Burn rubber and Hoon it until you’re…
If 15 MPG city isn’t acceptable, then that makes quite a few exhilarating cars unacceptable... In no particular order:
Oh the horror! A performance car with a giant V8 doesn’t get great gas mileage.
