You can’t “look like” anything, Res Ipsa Loquitur. Either you know what you are speaking about or you don’t, and POC have no problem calling shenanigans when that is clear, even with other people of color (its not just white people). The issue is people always want brownie points for their intentions (making that road…
You’re obviously wrong, she has a vagina. We really dodged a bullet here.
I’m sure you already know this, but you need to un-friend those people. I respect/am horrified that you made it through the entire campaign without doing so.
While we’re making unsolicited requests: PLEASE go fuck yourself.
Mine too. A long time ago (more years than I want to admit), my father told me a smart person learns from their mistakes, but a wise person learns from others’ mistakes. I think a LOT of people just don’t think that way and have to experience the pain a bit to learn why something is a bad idea.
when the south park guys are all “we can’t make fun of this anymore…”
Fuck no. Not even in jest and with a burner account would I be willing to pretend that I would ever vote for President Ratings Machine. It’s great that some Trumpsters are coing to their senses, TWO MONTHS FUCKING LATE!!!!!!
Seriously. That place is like a human-nazi-centipede.
First of all, no. A White person could say the EXACT same thing as Misty Copeland and no one would accuse them of speaking for POC. “I believe in diversity and inclusion”, “I disagree with this racist and shitty person.” This is just being a fucking good person. Second of all, White silence is not out of respect. What…
We are specifically talking about celebrities/athletes speaking up and shunning or breaking endorsement deals in this situation. We are not talking about sitting around at a coffeeshop when a white person overhears a group of people speaking about racial injustice, and then rushes over to shush everyone and talk about…
No. Not at all. Speaking over is when you are in a group and one person is trying to speak and you talk over them. Or when you insist on a leadership role when it doesn’t belong to you. These celebrities can easily add their voices here without speaking over anyone.
Do you think that there’s a difference, though, between what could be perceived as “whitesplaining” and actually putting your money on the line, as Copeland and Johnson have, for what you believe in? If more straight, white celebs did that, I think they’d be taken seriously. The problem is when it’s all talk and too…
If white people were willing to take a stand against Trump, Trump wouldn’t be President.
And yet again, it’s overwhelmingly POC that are taking a stand. I shouldn’t be surprised, but I’m tired of white silence.
Let’s be clear that the protests and letters and calls and demonstrations helped here. Judges are DEFINITELY aware of public opinion in cases like these.
This is a picture I took in TJ Maxx. On the right is Calvin Klein. The left is Ivanka’s crappy knockoff. Maybe if her line had a ounce of creativity instead of being shitty knockoffs, it would do better.
I love his assertion that her being ‘a great person’ (citation needed) has any bearing on Nordstrom carrying her line. They cut it because it didn’t sell, and Nordstrom is a business, it wouldn’t matter if it was Mother Teresa’s line.
