@tramusen: Last year I installed a DVD-RW drive in the family's Dell, which is about 6-7 years old by now.

When I was looking to change my ISP, I found that a new DSL modem from the ISP would cost $75 or $25 and $10 every 6 months, I went on ebay and found a decent modem for around $25.

@pouncep: It's even better on TWiT Live when Leo says a URL and you can see the results instantly.

@Posco Grubb: I knew I wasn't the only one to think that Steve Gibson is annoying.

@BigBadRAM: Totally worth it though. In Canada, even the simple things like a USB hub, bluetooth adapter or audio extension cable are marked up beyond belief. Dealextreme fills that gap where [amazon.com] would fill for me if I lived in the states :)

I suck at colours, so I just have a script to grab an image from my webcam attached to my home server, analyze the picture and make the most used colour in the image the colour of the header on my site.

A friend sent me that image... I think last week or the week before.

@Bonhomme7h: Any suggestions to remove saliva from a netbook keyboard :P

@valmorphorize: Don't forget the ability to acquire Cherry Coke goes away :(

@bgrigg002: Real maple syrup is great! We have relative that owns a large piece of land containing maple trees and get a nice jug of the stuff every year. It's much better than the store bought stuff (I think it has to do with being boiled on a wood fire versus the gas flame the larger operations use).

@rrapynot: Thanks for the tip! I really wanted to make use of the GPS on my Bold without paying for a data plan I'd never use.

When I registered my domain, a three letter one consisting of my initials and a number, I found that the .org was availible, though not the .com. Really wish I checked out the .com, since it was a porn site with broken links and images that don't work.

@Enginerd: For rogers I'm not having any luck, their email to text service is just awful and didn't even work for me.

@paulmyers00: Google Voice isn't available outside of the United States. Unfortunately, I'm in Canada.

Dammit, I have a BlackBerry Bold on the Rogers Pay-As-You-Go plan and tried most of these without it working. My phone didn't even allow me to type the email address in, I tried sending an MMS which would have worked except it failed to send and I got an automated text message from rogers saying I need to buy a $2.99

@MavrixWK: A Mac isn't included in that equation. Unfortunately, you need to pay $100 a year plus own a Mac to develop apps for it.

Just when I thought I had my head securely taped together, I had to read this article and my head exploded... AGAIN.
