the lactose is in the whey. So hard cheeses like sharp cheddar(Cabot is awesome) are considered lactose free. But some people have allergies to OTHER parts of dairy products such as lectins. Someone said the cheese and yogurt culturing process may make it ok for you. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/lectins/ here is a

It probably has something to do with the fermentation process. Cheese and yogurt have both been fermented to some degree, meaning there is more/different bacteria in them than in things like milk or ice cream. Could be that the fermentation is helping cancel out whatever it is in your body that can't tolerate milk.

I think the smug ones are the people who look down on others for choosing foods that don't make them sick. I'll admit some people take it too far and/or use their condition as an excuse to make themselves feel special, but drinking straight up milk or cream will give me butt explosions.

Some of us don't have a choice about using substitutes. It doesn't mean we don't value all the same things you do in food.

I can't even start with Doritos or I will go down a crumby, cheesy finger spiral of self hate and over indulgence.

It pisses me off to no end that Starbucks charges extra for soy milk. You know what'll be expensive to pay for? The chair my bowels explode on.

Why can't we all just do whatever the fuck we want? I use almond milk for smoothies, etc and Trader Joe's Soy Creamer for coffee.

yeah though for someone who gets really really sick from dairy and soy products almond milk is kind of a lifesaver—the mother jones article kind of rubbed me the wrong way becuase it assumed that most people were opting for almond milk becuase of moral/ethical reasons and not just plain allergy-related ones. That

I was a virgin until I was 28. I had no expectations of my first sexual experience. I didn't expect angels to sing, rockets to explode, that I would change in some fundamental way. The only physical change was the torn hymen.
People made a big deal out of my virginity, that I no longer disclosed it to new friends

Ahem. If I may.

This show would be a lot more interesting if it was about older virgins. Older virgins have much more interesting stories to tell. That's where friendly ribbing from friends morphs into society really making you feel alien.

The problem is, whether we like it or not, virginity past the socially acceptable age is a big deal because society makes it a big deal! It's a phenomenon that already exists, and pretending it doesn't exist isn't going to stop advanced-age virgins from feeling humiliated every time the subject comes up - which it

Im currently 28 (male) and became sexually active in 2012 when I was 25. Lets just say the reason for being a virgin that late was voluntary and involuntary. I could've lost it in college but I wasn't into the one nighter thing plus I wanted to feel emotionally attracted to the women i'm fucking. And involuntary, The

I'm a virgin past the age at which it is statistically common to be a virgin and the only thing that really bothers me about it is that apparently I can't actually use my virginity to summon unicorns. I feel cheated.

As someone who abstained until I got married at 25, it always exasperates me that there's this fascination and pressure surrounding losing your virginity. It really isn't that big of a deal unless it's made out to be. Statistics have shown that a significant portion of people arrive and even *leave* college as virgins

I was a virgin (in the hetero traditional sense) well into my 20s, for somewhat complicated reasons involving religion, fear of pregnancy/abortion, discomfort with being physically close to people, and a messy college breakup. It was a pretty tiny part of my identity and day-to-day life, except that I could always win

@tiredfairy: What I'm saying is this - go back to my original comment about my daughter. Honestly, she kind of IS what Taylor Swift is representing - just nice, not edgy, donates where she can, etc etc.

@margeh: This begs the question, who do you think is doing the classifying? Because it sure looks to me like there are some writers in the immediate vicinity doing backflips to virginalize what doesn't have to be. Why not just let this young woman be a young woman - why try to turn it into something that it isn't?

I think the "backlash" here is so obvious. People listen to someone's music because it resonates with them.
